The external pad also had a fuse, in case a technician ever transmitted into the generator output of the service monitor. I had a CE-6 but sold it when I got my CE 4. I don't recall if the CE-4 requires an external 20db pad to make the output level accurate. With a calibrated attenuator so you know how many microvolts you're getting out. The CE-4 will generate 10KHz to 999.9999 MHz. The CE-6 and CE-4 are continuous coverage and very useful for aligning AM/Shortwave radios. Only vhf frequencies, low band and high band and UHF. The CE-3 and CE-5 had a much more limited frequency range.

Useful in the commercial radio world to generate Private Line tones, etc. The audio generator lets you dial in whatever modulation frequency you want. The scope is nice too, as it shows the FM modulation on carriers it's hearing, or the deviation of the RF it's generating. You got the high sensitivity receiver module, so it will hear a couple of microvolts, if everything is working correctly.

It will also measure frequencies, but I'm not sure (don't remember) if the receiver goes down to 10KHz.
